Roger C.9/28/22Steeleboxer is great for many reasons. I experienced positive results immediately after I started training with Chris and Patricia, such as losing weight and bulking up in a healthy and constructive manner and learning the techniques of boxing efficiently under close supervision.
The gym is open to everyone. It does not matter what level of fitness you are currently at or whether you know boxing at all. Steeleboxer is a friendly and fun gym where the coaches take a holistic and tailored approach to bettering your personal fitness, overall wellness, and boxing skills, and they really share their expertise and push your limit.
- Bottom line is if you are looking for place to learn how to box seriously while getting fit, Steeleboxer has got it all.
Jason N.309 friends2 reviews9/28/22This gym and Chris and Patricia have completely changed my fitness. The training is both fun and challenging. No two days are the same. I'm getting closer and closer to my goals each day and having fun doing it. I'm in the best shape I've been in 20 years. I highly recommend Steele Boxer!
Jansen N.249 friends1 review10/10/22Steeleboxer has transformed my physical well-being. After two spine surgeries, I was in a physical rut. Exercise would often lead to injury, which is debilitating in many more ways than just physically. Chris and Patricia changed all of that. Their attention and customization of workout routines and training (in and out of the ring) enabled me to not only recover from chronic ailments, but to continue to grow strength and muscle consistently. At 41 years old, I'm now in the best shape of my life and continue to improve daily. My only regret is that I didn't discover Steeleboxer earlier in life. I've recommended Steeleboxer to a number of friends, all of whom feel the same way. I truly can't speak highly enough about this place.

Tania H.Los Angeles, CA 2/25/2021My only apprehension in writing this review is that I don't want to share this secret with the world... but then no one would know what they're missing. I can't believe it took me so long to discover Steeleboxer. I was born and raised in LA, I've tried every single workout & this place by far, hands down, is THE BEST. The dedication and attention that Chris and Patricia share with their clients is a gift and anyone lucky enough to experience it is doing a favor to their mind and body. I find myself looking forward to every single session and when I miss one, my day is not as good as it could've been. I feel great and I feel stronger. Parking is a plus, easy and free. Do yourself a favor and find out what you've been missing! Neil W.Los Angeles, CA610 7/17/2020Spencer Steele is the real deal. He is an awesome coach who brings vibrant energy to every session. While I always leave dripping in sweat and feeling like I have progressed, I also have a ton of fun doing it. The personalized approach you get from Spencer in a session is far superior to any group class setting and you will get much better, much sooner, as a result. If/ when your session overlaps with another person you will get the chance to move around with another student at a pace you're comfortable with- Whether that is sparring or more controlled sparring-like games/ drills. If you're ever curious if Spencer has real chops himself, ask him to move around with you a bit. You'll feel silly for having asked shortly thereafter ;). I can't state strongly enough that wherever you're at in your boxing journey, Spencer is worth your money and time. Nicole S.Marina del Rey, CA 3/13/2021I LOVE THIS GYM. I met Chris and Pat through friends who have been coming to their gym for years. They are professional, knowledgeable and absolutely enthusiastic about working with me to improve my mind and body. They are great cheerleaders, so if you're looking for a workout that never feels like a workout this gym is for you.
Nate T.Southern California, CA0131 9/27/2019This is the best boxing gym around, no matter your skill level or physical condition, hands down! I never, ever expected to see the level of results that I have gotten after coming to Steeleboxer. Aside from losing 40+ lbs in under 4 months and noticeably building muscle, I've learned so much about the sport of boxing and proper technique inside the ring. Chris, Patricia, and Spencer are great to work with and the program is so creative, mixing iconic techniques from the all the great boxers: Ali, Leonard, Jones Jr. to name a few. You really exercise your mind as much at your body, there is so much to learn and they do a great job teaching it. Also, great clients from all skill levels and experience come here, it's fun to train with them in the ring. If you are on the fence, let me push you over, do it!
Nicole K.Toronto, Canada7/1/2018If you want an awesome workout look no further. I just finished a series of 20 sessions, going 5 days a week, and already my friends are noticing a difference in my physical appearance. I've just signed on for another 30 and am excited for more change. The Steele Boxer family genuinely have my best interest at heart and want to see me succeed. Their workouts and motivation have helped build confidence, and empower me with each workout. I look forward to each session and miss them when I can't go.There is always an element of surprise in the workout to keep you on your toes. I would recommend Steel Boxer to anyone who is looking to make a change in their life for the better.
Thank you Patricia, Chris and Spencer. You're amazing! I'm so lucky to have found you. Keep up the good work. Jay V.Los Angeles, CA016 2/25/2020I've been working with Spencer now for over 6 months, usually going twice per week and I can tell you it's well worth it. If you're considering private training, you owe it to yourself to check this out. Prior to working with Spencer, I'd never taken a boxing class. I've learned so much and still have a lot to learn but I'm also getting in shape and because it's fun, the hour flies by. But trust me, you will know that you got a workout and even better, Spencer's approach to training is designed to minimize any risk of injury. If you have to work for a living (like most of us), you don't need to get injured because of a workout. Spencer is also a positive attitude who takes his time to teach you the right way to do things. Check out a class. If you're serious about getting shape and are looking for something fun, this is for you. Barney B.Los Angeles, CA5/28/2018without a doubt, Steeleboxer goes way beyond an incredible workout. It helps you learn how to conquer anything and everything. Every day, I wake up and can't wait to get into that gym. Thank you Steeleboxer, again and again!!!!
ay D.North Hills, Los Angeles, CA5/29/2018SteeleBoxer is an understated gym. Although you can learn or refine your boxing skills here, you can also sharpen your fitness, nutrition and life skills. Chris and Patricia Steele, along with their son, Spencer do a great job of providing a well rounded training regimen that often goes beyond the boxing gloves. There's No pretense and no nonsense when you step over the threshold.
I've been going to the gym for the past 11 months and have learned a lot. It's strange but I never thought that life lessons could be learned in the ring.
Thank you Patricia, Chris and Spencer. You ROCK!!!

After a running injury I was looking for some alternate work-out. Tried out Steelboxer and now go there twice a week - really looking forward to each session. Chris has been very accomodating. This is a true 1:1, train at your own pace, for a full hour work-out. Fantastic. Patricia assists in between and insists on perfect form. Keep those arms up! For anyone who hasn't tried boxing I can only recommend it. It's mental and physical at the same time. Chris shares all the tricks/moves of the greatest in boxing. I keep learning and getting more fit. Just love it. Chris and Patricia continue to make me better. Thank you for your passion and sharing laughs with me while training me hard.
Georg R.San Francisco, CA6/29/2018Just got back from a yet exhausting but also exhilarating personal training session with Chris. I couldn't get better - I get a full 60 minutes of personal attention (customized to my desires and needs). Best workout at value prices. I didn't start there to become a great boxer, just to try out something different. Boy, how unexpected: I just love going there. It's more mental and physical than I could describe. Makes me look good and feel better about myself each and every time. Thank you Chris and Patricia for getting me closer to my potential. Georg R.
Misty T.Marina del Rey, CA 2/7/2015Let me put it this way - if you want results, sign up for a package at Steeleboxer. Through the very intense, very specific, and very hands on training of Chris and Patricia - you will see results. Immediately. It's a like a vacuum enters your body within an hour of each session and miracle of all miracles you are leaner. Like, waaaayyyy leaner. In places you haven't seen lean EVER.
Over all their decades of experience, they have found the perfect workout that takes men's and women's bodies to the next level. Now, it ain't easy. But, it's most certainly fun. Within just a few sessions, they had my body doing things she's never done - and doing them with a big smile on my face. Chris is simply hilarious and Patricia, well - first of all, she's so beautiful with an INSANE body - and her knowledge of food and the intel she shares so openly has really changed my life and what I put into my mouth - it's as if a few of her secrets were what I had been waiting on my whole life. Both have incredible amounts of patience - and Lord knows I need it. It's funny, they believe in you when even you don't. It's like they KNOW you can do it.
This is what sold me on Steeleboxer: I've just never met a workout that I didn't dread - and I most definitely look forward to my weekly sessions here. And, little do they know how much they have infiltrated my daily thoughts. I always think about a billion times a day - what would Patricia eat? She talks to me a lot about baby step goals, especially with food...and for some reason, with her, I really listen.
Chris has turned into a personal advisor of sorts - which is amazing - it's like I get to work out beyond any capacity that I thought I could achieve, vent (and learn more) about my job in the entertainment industry (which he knows loads about from training dozens of stars), and fly high on some kind of wild energy for hours after each session.
As a team, they make up the perfect life/body/mental coaches that I didn't even know I needed.
And, seriously, I never EVER thought I'd be going through my day ready to throw a jab/punch in the wake of everyone I meet. That's just how excited I get about them, the moves I'm learning, the vibe they give me and the overall affect these classes have on me in general. And, what's even better - ever since I started taking classes here, EVERYONE has commented on my energy. It's gone through the roof.
Plus, I just love the super personal, 1 on 1 training. It makes all the difference in the world...and they manage to shake it up enough each session to where you never get bored. And, an hour flies by - which NEVER happens in normal workouts. Nor do you see results like this soooooo fast. This is like the workout you take home with you - mentally and physically. Another first in my world.
With them, I can see the super fit, tight little bod I am supposed to have :) rapidly emerging and that alone is the most exciting thing ever.
JAB PUNCH!
if you're looking for a great workout and a boatload of fun Steeleboxer is the place to go. Chris is. Wonderful teacher and will have you feeling like Ali after one session. I plan on returning to Steeleboxer whenever I can back to the Los Amgels area. Chris will go at your own pace and will never put you in a situation you aren't comfortable with. I highly suggest trying it out

2/4/2015I started at Steeleboxer about a month ago. Though I was a little apprehensive at first, I was equally excited to give it a try. And I am sure glad I did! The owners of the gym, Chris and Patricia, are great. They push you hard but at the right pace customized to the age and fitness level of each individual. I have learned so much in a short time and feel I have barely scratched the surface so the best is yet to come. The workouts are great, with tremendous variety, and really get you in great shape. The one on one training is highly effective and I am fully committed as I have signed up for several months to come. I would highly recommend Steeleboxer!!!.Alan.

5/2/2015Steeleboxer is the best overall body work-out around! Steeleboxer's custom workouts helped me get back into shape and lose the 40 pounds I'd gained after having my incredible kids. Also, the nutritional knowledge and fitness expertise of their Pros (a big, special thanks to Patricia!!!) gave me the tools I needed to keep the weight off. Now, over 6 years later, I look to Steeleboxer to keep me fit...and in a size 4!! Also, as a busy Mom of 3, I really appreciate their flexibility when it comes to scheduling training sessions. In my book, Steeleboxer is the best!
Tyre D.Laveen, United States 10/8/2014Decided to check this out while on a long layover in LA. What an amazing experience! I got a full workout and more importantly I learned SO MUCH! This was exactly what training should be ! The training is on your individual level and Chris is an excellent teacher. If I lived in the area I would definitely be a frequent visitor. The bat cave is an added bonus! Highest recommendation!
I H.Venice, United States 16/10/2014This place is amazing. The boxing training is fantastic and combined with free weights and machines to keep the workout moving without getting overwhelmed with any one thing. Highly recommended.

1/2/2015I have been training at SteeleBoxer for the last 7 months. My prior boxing experience was during the previous 1.5 years before signing up with Chris. The private lessons have turned out to be the best way for me to learn the art of boxing. You will definitely receive an awesome aerobic workout during your hour lesson while learning how to box the Steele way! Chris is very methodical in his approach to training and uses his vast boxing experience and exceptional skills to move you along the path to actually sparring in the ring. After you learn the basics, you will begin sparring with Chris and his son Spencer in a very controlled setting. They are pro boxers, fun to work with, and both have a really great sense of humor. They will teach you foot work, techniques, and the strategy it takes to wear down the traditional boxer to your advantage. I know firsthand how the Steele way of boxing allows a senior citizen like me to spar and hold my own with other boxers that are decades younger. I have also trained with Chris's wife Patricia. She knows how to train you and I have always enjoyed the sessions where she helped me improve my boxing skills. She is a testament that boxing/kickboxing will keep you in shape. Whether your goal is to be a pro boxer or to get in the best shape of your life, you will be treated as an equal in all respects. So, if you want to learn the real art of boxing, I would highly recommend SteeleBoxer.
Adam N.Los Angeles, United States 30/1/2015This place is amazing. I'm 36 now, and besides youth sports when i was kid, i've never found a type of real exercise i actually enjoy. Until i went to Steeleboxer. I've been going for a year now, and started to see real results after just a month by going for 1 hour a day, 3 times a week. I came in a skinny guy with a fat gut. Now the belly is gone and i've added muscle everywhere else. And got to learn how to box in the process. Chris and Patricia are fantastic trainers and the place is designed to give you 1 on 1 time - on your schedule. They do a mix of boxing, weights and ab work every session. They really work as your training partners keeping you motivated for the entire session. Everybody who works out there is cool too. No meatheads. Plus, if you're a guy, it's pretty much man-heaven. Old Ali / Roy Jones Jr / SugarRayLeonard fights playing on all the TV's, a bat cave, cool bruce lee posters, 80s montage-style mix CD's. If you're thinking of learning how to box, but want to learn at your pace, have fun, get in great shape, and not worry about getting hurt or being in over your head, this is your place. You'll love it!!
Bam B.Playa del Rey, United States 30/1/2015Steeleboxer is an absolutely amazing gym !! And Chris, Patricia and Spencer Steele are like family. Steeleboxer is a local gem that has trained the who's who of Los Angeles for over 20 years. From a boxing perspective, it's much more than just an intense workout, you actually learn techniques one-on-one from an ex pro fighter and trainer and then you get a chance to go and execute them right there in an official sized boxing ring ! So cool. DO NOT MISS IT !!
Scott L.Marina del Rey, United States 29/1/2015Been Boxing at Steelboxer on and off for almost 10 years!! Fun, challenging, and the results are unquestionable. Chis and Patricia are like the dynamic duo!!! Chis' boxing techniques are unparalleled and Patricia will challenge even the most experienced kick boxer out there.. Despite what some of the reviews say, they are most accommodating as my schedule is always changing, and when you have a 1 on 1 training ONLY like they offer, you can't expect to 'muscle' someone out of their session. Can't rave enough about them..
Lisa C.Mid Wilshire, Los Angeles, United States 29/1/2015I've been struggling to find SOMETHING to make me excited about working out again...and thankfully a friend gifted me with a session at Steelboxer. One session with Chris and Patricia convinced me to sign up for a full month. The one on one training is the key. Chris and Patricia both focus their energy completely on you, work you hard, but keep technique at the forefront. When I leave there, I'm literally a wet rag, but...time flies, muscles tighten, fat shrinks, energy soars, and spirits are through the roof because every session starts and ends with positive reinforcement, a self-esteem boost, and endless encouragement. The sessions are never boring, each time I learn something new, and they expect you to get the most out of your workout...not for them...but for you. That, and the fact that you don't feel judged or discouraged, is worth every penny.
Gian H. 30/1/2015If you're looking for personal boxing or kickboxing training, Steeleboxer is the place you belong. Excellent, well rounded personal attention with each session. Chris, his wife Patricia and his son Spencer make up a balanced team that can cater to anyone's fitness goals. I have been coming here a few times per week for about four months now and have never felt more in shape. Highly recommended. - Gian.
Marina del Rey, CACharlie N2/21/2013This place is definitely not for everyone. If you are serious about working out, changing your body, or health lifestyle in the process, this is the place. This is by far THE most unique, unmatched personal training experience available ANYWHERE in Los Angeles. PERIOD! I have been going to Chris and Patricia for a few years and I have literally transformed my body. Every session is private and customized to your specific goals. Whether you want to lose weight , cut up, get a six pack, learn how to box or kick box this is the spot. Want to lift weights or do aerobic style workouts? Whatever YOU want, they design a plan just for you. This place is a huge gym with a bag room, a weight room, a nautilus room, and a FULL professional size boxing ring AND it's totally 100% private. Never wait for a single machine, zero distractions and you get a true FULL hour workout. Not to mention, for the price, it is the best bang for your buck as far as personal trainers go. If you are even considering it, you can buy a single sample session before fully committing... I highly recommend this place...Monica MThey do all sorts of boxing and kick boxing training. My first lesson was mostly conditioning - lots of ab workouts + just trying to learn the moves.Patricia is amazing. She works out with you and lets you choose what you'd like to work on most. She's a great teacher - super positive and energetic, but also fairly into making sure you're doing stuff right (or at least in my case as best as I could...who knew keeping your legs straight while kicking + pivoting at the same time could be so freakin difficult?!)Guys lessons can lead to actual sparring in the first hour. Chris and Spencer help out with these, and they are both incredible as well. They even gave us a dvd of the recorded fight at the end...my hubby's most awkward moments commemorated forever? i like it!The best part? The BAT CAVE. When I first walked in the door, Chris directed me to "the bat cave" to get a bottle of water. In a completely normal voice. It's seriously an entire room decked to the top in all sorts of batman paraphernalia. Apparently Chris helped train Michelle Pfeiffer for Catwoman. Ridonculous.
Everyone is amazingly friendly and funny.

1/7/2013Nothing but good things to say about Steele Boxer. I've been going there, as my schedule has allowed, for over 4 years. They customize their workouts to your shape and skills, whether you want to actually be in the ring sparring, or you just want the physical workout that boxing provides.
When I would casually pass their gym, I thought their place was more of a Tai Bo, Hollywood expensive personal trainer "light" program. I was very wrong.
For those that like to get pushed to their physical limit, I've seen pro athletes (men and women) go in there and get all they can handle - huffing and puffing within a couple of rounds.
For me, personally, I came in over 40 years old, an out of shape mess (no reflection of my former self as a swimmer and water polo player) and Chris and Patricia worked with me to get my confidence to be an athlete again. My cardio has been back to where I was in my fit 20s, and I feel like I can spring into an activity without the worries and reality of pulling muscles and being randomly injured. I've seen 50+ and 60+ year old people working their way back into shape there. I've also seen kids like Henry that are there catching on quick and already pack a wallop.
I've never been a contact sports guy, but now, I look forward to getting in the ring with head gear on and learning the amazing subtleties of boxing (footwork, combinations, defense, boxing from your right or left side, head movement, distance fighting, strategies against boxing stereotypes...)
As a sport, I actually enjoy watching MMA more than boxing, and since I've been learning from Chris, I can see that boxing within MMA is still at it's baby stages. Actually, it seems like boxing is still in it's infancy with the exception of Ali and a few others. If you do MMA seriously, you need to go to Chris and see what the possibilities of striking that only people like Anderson Silva even touch upon. Chris was a World Kickboxing champion too, so he can enlighten you about that. I only do kicking with Patricia and that's more than enough to keep me flexible and work the muscles I forgot that I had.
Warning to meatheads, tough guys, and golden gloves champs: I've seen more than my share of lunkheads trying to prove their toughman boxing skills and challenge Chris on the spot in his ring. Chris doesn't mind running video of these challenges and there's plenty of tape out there of Chris bringing these guys down to an exhausted whimper. Some stay and learn... most go away embarrassed. For awhile Chris would just let his son, Spencer, schools those guys. Spencer being all the proof you really need that Chris' guidance can take you not only to a proficient level of boxing, but a professional level, if you have that kind of drive
Andrew VI was a fifty year old executive that was sixty pounds overweight and had difficulty walking up stairs. My goal was to shed the weight and not to be a physical mess when I walked my daughter down the aisle 8 months later. Chris and Patricia worked with me daily and not only helped me lose the weight, tone up, and improve my physical health, they helped me improve my self image and self confidence in a very positive and life changing way. They work along side of you and train by example.
Steele Boxer is truly a five star experience.

I have been at the Steel Boxer gym for twelve plus years and would highly recommend this workout for anyone who wishes to improve on their looks, shape and overall well being. I have completely changed my appearance from an overweight middle aged woman to a proud younger looking go getter....The works outs are customized to your own skill sets and physical challenges and do indeed support results. There is also diet counseling along with a very productive one hour work out. Both Chris and Patricia are amazing in that they have excellent coaching and motivating skills. Allot of my time is spent with Patricia who completely holds me accountable to correct form as well as enhanced endurance.
Due to a few injuries over the years, Patricia has been very cognizant of best workout regime and implements proper form and best ways to strengthen and improve muscles and tone. I cannot say enough about Patricia's professional attitude and demeanor over the years I have worked with her and she is by far, the best Trainer I have ever worked with. Intermittently when I have the opportunity to be in the ring and work with Chris, his knowledge, motivation, encouragement and support are beyond what anyone could expect.
I would endorse the Steele Boxer approach to better health, improved appearance, and overall mental and physical well-being.

1/7/2013I can't say enough positive things about Steele Boxer. I've been a client of the gym for more than 8 years and I can't imagine my weekly routine without Chris and Patricia Steele.
Where do I start? The Steeles truly care about their clients' progress and success. They are both extremely knowledgeable and seasoned trainers - they have seen it all and know what to do about it. They also have personalities that are ideally suited to motivating clients in a professional but also warm and caring manner.
At Steele Boxer, they take the time to tailor individual programs (including both training and nutrition) that address each person's particular challenges and goals.
Each hour-long, one-on-one workout is different (no boring, repetitive classes!) and targeted to your specific fitness goals. Want to wear tank-tops without worrying about bat wings? Dying to burn off those muffin tops before beach season? Ready to shed those last stubborn pounds before your class reunion? Steele Boxer can get you there.
Beyond straight physical conditioning, however, Chris and Patricia's personal attention to clients' individual fitness histories and perspectives helps strengthen clients on the inside as well, guiding them to a level of confidence and athleticism they might not have thought possible.
Personally, there were things about my figure that over the years I had come to believe would never change. I had bought into beliefs like "I could never be a size X" and "My [body part] will never look like hers - I'm not made that way." Working with Chris and Patricia removed these limiting beliefs in the most effective way possible: by proving them wrong.
Within a few months of starting my training, I dropped two dress sizes. Along the way, I developed muscle tone and definition as Chris designed a specific workout with the goal of creating ideal body proportions for my build. As my training has progressed, I have continued to see improvement as old goals have been met and new ones set. As I said at the top of this review, my workouts are an integral part of my routine and I look forward to them - both mentally and physically. It's worth noting that Steele Boxer is the only fitness regimen that I have stayed with in the long-term...and I have tried many.
As you can see, I'm happy to share my experiences at Steele Boxer, and I have referred many friends there. Once I started working out and seeing the results, my husband and our two children began training at Steele Boxer as well, and have continued to do so for a number of years. They are each enjoying their own individual benefits from working with Chris and Patricia.
I could go on and on about Steele Boxer (obviously), but I'll wrap it up with this thought:
If you are looking to improve your physique, increase your fitness and radically upgrade the way you perceive yourself and your body - you could not be in better hands than Steele Boxer's
John R.Los Angeles, United States 22/5/2013Short review.... been going for about 3 months, twice a week (with a few breaks)I am an older guy, who was very out of shape - and Chris and Patricia are awesome at training me.I previously had zero interest in boxing.... but they use free weights & cardio & a bit of machines... plus boxing... plus a bit of nutritional coaching.I have lost about 18 lbs, and am much stronger than I was at the start. I feel much better, and I look about 10 years younger. No joke. They are both really nice people, and they give 110% when I am there. (and to all their clients) I like the "1 on 1" training, and they inspire me to do my 'homework' (cut down on alcohol, salt, fat, .. and to eat well)I found them by a friend of a friend who recommended them.Sure - if you look closely the gym is a little dusty in places.... but they are all about the training... and they are great trainers.I have had back problems all my life, and a shoulder problem in the last 7 years - and Chris (who I work with mostly) is a genius at reading my progress, moment by moment... and making sure I don't injure myself. Chris has the reputation of working with people with previous injuries - and it is true. He somehow knows exactly how hard to have me work out, so I'm a little sore the next day, but ready to work out hard the next time I come in.Highly recommended.John
Jason H.Los Angeles, United States 7/1/2013Nothing but good things to say about Steele Boxer. I've been going there, as my schedule has allowed, for over 4 years. They customize their workouts to your shape and skills, whether you want to actually be in the ring sparring, or you just want the physical workout that boxing provides. When I would casually pass their gym, I thought their place was more of a Thai Bo, Hollywood expensive personal trainer "light" program.
Spencer being all the proof you really need that Chris' guidance can take you not only to a proficient level of boxing, but a professional level, if you have that kind of drive.
